For the love of food!

Crew support has finally decided to keep me on my toes…which is a nice change from laying around. I picked up a turn to Nassau, Bahamas on my off day to give me something to do and thinking they wouldn’t use me anytime soon. I planned on being home by dinner time. Of course that didn’t happen.
The only thing certain about the airline industry is that nothing is certain.
That turn to the Bahamas was a mess. Bad weather, a diversion to Ft. Lauderdale, disgruntled passengers and an even more annoyed me! We just smile and bare it knowing that in a few short hours they’ll be off our plane. 😉
The next day…of course I get called at 9 am for a trip. Overnights in Winnipeg, Des Moines and Bakersfield, tentatively. Once again, the only thing certain is that nothing is certain. After day 2 I was pulled from the trip and deadheaded home after the original line holder wanted their trip back. I’m not complaining tho, Canada was the only part I was really anxious to see. Mostly because I wanted another stamp in my passport, and for food…of course! Nothing says Canada like Poutine! The weather outside was a whole 5 degrees Fahrenheit, and me being me…I forgot where I was going and left a jacket at home. So instead of exploring and searching for the best Poutine, I settled on Garbonzo’s Pizza Pub next door to my hotel. Attached to the Univerity of Winnipeg, it was probably a chain restaurant but it worked! I got the Decadent Chicken Pizza with a side of Poutine. Decadent was right! The pizza had an Alfredo sauce, spicy chicken and bacon with a blend of cheeses. The Poutine was great too, at least I thought so for my first time having it! Fries topped with brown gravy and cheese curds, sounds weird to most but sounds like heaven to me.
I definitely can’t wait to go back to Canada and try some other styles of Poutine! But definitely with a jacket and not cold weather!
The next day was Winnipeg to Chicago, which had a delay…surprise surprise! I spent a whole 10 minutes at ORD before Crew Support took me off the trip. Hopped on my deadhead home, then spent about 10 hours in Houston before Crew Support called this morning to put me on another two day trip! Crew support whiplash is the best way to describe it, but I can’t complain it keeps me entertained like no other career could.
A few hour flight to Norfolk, Virginia and here I am now. Spent some time debating on going to get food or not, and like always…food won! Being on the east coast, seafood was the obvious choice. The hotel shuttle will only take you up to five miles and my option #1 was 5.3 miles away so I settled for option #2. I don’t think the shuttle driver was thrilled with my out of the way option but for the love of food, my mind was made!
Captain Groovy’s Grill and Raw Bar, wow!
The picture does this no justice! It’s almost a shame to post, but all good meals need pictures right?! Not pictured, but I began with a cup of the She Shore Crab Soup which was cream crab and sherry. I would dive into it and live in it if I could. I’m pretty sure it’s number one on my list of favorite soups ever, which I didn’t know I even had until now. It was so creamy and delicious with the seafoody, crabby flavor, but not overwhelmingly crabby to where it starts to taste like the ocean floor. The perfect choice on a chilly east coast day! Next was the Marina Crab Cake Sandwich pictured above, with a side of Crabby Mac. The sandwich was just as amazing! Crab cake served on a kaiser roll with a bajan tartar. I don’t even know what bajan is but I love it! The sandwich was so creamy and seemed to melt in my mouth. I’m a sucker for comfort food so the Crabbie Mac sounded like a good option, however it was the only thing I wasn’t really impressed with. Good but not something I would get again. Lastly, which I’m slowly eating down now is dessert. I don’t normally do dessert but the hotel said the shuttle would be at least another thirty minutes, so I’ve got time to kill. Dessert is a win also, called something Bomb. Basically a ball of mango, raspberry and passion fruit sorbet all inside a white chocolate she’ll drizzled with chocolate. I wasn’t sure sorbet and chocolate went together but it definitely can!
I probably broke the bank on this meal but it’s payday and it was hands down one of the best meals I’ve had in a while, which makes it all worth it! The Lagoon Restaurant looked like it had a nice view, which I would love to check out another time. Today Captain Groovy’s took the cake in the food department and exceeded any hopes I had for a good meal. Not bad for getting slingshot around the upper half of the North American continent in a matter of days!
A few more days then off for five straight! Hopefully my next post will be from a beautiful island in Hawaii! You never know where you’ll end up living #theflylife. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. <3
