Muiishi Makirritos – Houston
Muiishi Makirritos - Houston

My first official food blog post is dedicated to all of my favorite things! Food trucks and sushi! Sushi is like a realm of endless possibilities. Sushi will no doubt be one of the most discussed foods that makes the cut! But seriously, is there anything better?! Ya no, I didn’t think so either. And food trucks…well the hunt for them is intriguing alone! It’s like you can see a truck one time driving down the street then never find it again. Then one day you find it, sitting at the end of a rainbow. Full of goodness! I swear they’re driven by leprechauns. Many of these food trucks are hidden treasures!
As far as sushi goes, I’m addicted! I eat it AT LEAST once a week, sometimes more. I spend way too much money on food, and sushi is the bulk of it. It’s almost always worth it tho! The only sushi I don’t dare try is gas station sushi, which I only saw once in LA but I was scarred for life. There’s no way that can be sanitary or good for the body. Other than that, I’ll give sushi a try any day.
I’ll never forget the first time I had sushi, which ironically enough is still my favorite sushi roll. I was anti-sushi. I like many people, thought it was all raw fish and disgusting. Little did I know…
Sushi is heaven!
The story behind why I ever even tried it makes it even better. In a gross but entertaining kind of way!
I took my friend to my sorority formal my senior year of college. I’m not a big drinker so I just hung out with my girls most of the night. In the meantime, my date is slamming drinks at the bar all night, giving my sorority sisters lap dances and basically getting white girl wasted. I didn’t realize how drunk he was until the bus ride back to the college, when he proceeds to puke his guts up on the charter bus floor and it rolls underneath all the seats to the front. The smell alone was enough to kill you. But anyways, that’s enough details on that.
The next day he apologized and decided to take me to dinner in a few days to make up for it. It worked. We went to Miyako’s in Granbury, Texas. We had hibachi and he had sushi. I finally read the menu and realized it wasn’t all raw and it had a lot of ingredients I love! I settled on a Fat Tuesday roll, which was like deep fried Cajun sushi goodness in my mouth! I haven’t found one as delicious yet, but it doesn’t stop me!
I’m forever grateful to the friend that drank too much at my formal and felt he owed me dinner. Afterall, if he hadn’t thrown up everywhere he may have never offered me dinner and I would forever be a sushi hater. I love when life comes full circle like that!
And now that you know the twisted story of how I went from hating sushi to loving it all thanks to one college night…we can get to the present!
So today’s sushi of choice was Muiishi Makirritos! A food truck I’ve been following on Facebook or a while but hadn’t made time to track down! Today it was a beautiful day in Houston and the perfect day to find it. It was located outside of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. On a beautiful day like today it’s perfect! Grab some food, sit in the sculpture garden to eat before taking your receipt into the MFA for free entry! Which is exactly what I did.
I know food truck sushi seems nearly as skeptical as gas station sushi but it is far from it! This place was on point! There’s so many unique options not limited to sushi. I got the Creamy Smoked Salmon Roll, which was all things delicious! Smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, jalapeño all tempura fried and drizzled with spicy mayo and eel sauce! It was fresh made no doubt! Then I had to try the Mac N Cheese Egg Rolls! Which was exactly as it sounds, Mac n cheese stuffed in a wonton with some ground pork. Paired with a delicious dipping sauce! Whenever I try a new restaurant or food spot, I almost always try something that is unique to that place. Muiishi Makirittos has a pretty original menu all around so it was easy to find something out of the ordinary, but today the egg rolls won!
There were so many more things I look forward to trying at this food truck! Hot Mess Fries, Chicken Kaarage, sushi burritos and so much more! It’s definitely worth hunting down if you’re around downtown Houston. And if you appreciate fine arts…go when it’s outside the MFA for the free admission with your receipt. I’m all about more for my money!
Hope you enjoyed my first food blog post! Time to go plan my next meal 😉 adios!

Cream Smoked Salmon Roll with some impressive works of art in the background. To me, Houston is art and food. You just have to know where to look!
